What Makes A Good Music Playlist?

Like most people, you probably have a go-to playlist for running, working out, or getting pumped up. But

First, you want to ensure you have various songs and genres. This will keep you from getting bored and give you something to look forward to while working out. Second, you want to make sure the songs are high-energy and motivating. Third, you want to choose songs with a good beat to keep you moving.

Finally, you want to consider the order of the songs. You don’t want to start too fast and have nowhere to go but down. Start with a few slower songs to warm up, then build to the faster ones. Then, end with a cool-down song to help you transition back to reality.

Here’s an example workout playlist that hits all of the above criteria:

Warm-Up

“All I Wanna Do” – Sheryl Crow

“I’m Gonna Be (500 Miles)” – The Proclaimers

“Here Comes the Sun” – The Beatles

Main Set

“Eye of the Tiger” – Survivor

“We Will Rock You” – Queen

“You Shook Me All Night Long” – AC/DC

“Can’t Stop” – Red Hot Chili Peppers

Cool-Down

“I Will Always Love You” – Whitney Houston

“Somewhere Over the Rainbow” – Israel Kamakawiwo’ole

“Don’t Stop Believin'” – Journey
